Waypost Care / Board and care
Care type
Small, licensed homes in ordinary neighborhoods, often with just a handful of residents. Most of California's licensed residential care is in homes like these, and they rarely advertise. We find them and check them. Free to families.
No contract. No obligation. A reply within one business day — same day for active discharges.
A board and care home, also called a residential care home, is a house in a residential neighborhood licensed to care for a small number of older adults. Residents get meals, supervision, and help with daily activities, with a higher ratio of staff to residents than many large communities.
They hold the same state license as large assisted living communities — Residential Care Facility for the Elderly — and many specialize, for example in memory care or in higher care needs.
Four in five of California's licensed residential care communities are small homes of fifteen residents or fewer. Most don't have a marketing budget, so they don't show up on the big referral websites.
That's also why they need checking. We look up each home's license status, capacity, citations and complaints before you see it, and give you the license number so you can look it up too.
Not sure? Tell us about the person and we'll show you both — small homes and larger assisted living communities — side by side.
No cost · No contract · No obligation
Tell us a little about the situation. A real person reads every one of these and replies within one business day — the same day if there's an active hospital discharge.
