Waypost Care / Questions

Before you decide

The questions people ask first.

Straight answers about how this works, who pays, and what we do and don't do.

Is it really free? What's the catch?

It's free to the family because communities pay us when a family we introduced moves in. That's the catch, and it's the same arrangement every senior living advisor has — we're just the ones who say it out loud and put it in writing. How we're paid →

Do you only show places that pay you?

No. If a community outside our network is a better fit, we'll say so. On every option we present, we'll say whether it's one that pays Waypost Care.

What areas do you cover?

Orange County, Los Angeles County and the San Francisco Bay Area. If the person needs to be somewhere else in California, ask — we'll tell you honestly whether we can help.

What kinds of care do you search?

Assisted living, memory care, board and care homes and independent living. We also help families navigate skilled nursing, home health and hospice, at no charge to anyone.

What's the difference between assisted living, memory care and board and care?

Assisted living is help with daily activities in a licensed community. Memory care is a secure setting with staff trained for dementia. Board and care homes are small licensed homes in residential neighborhoods, often with just a few residents. Assisted living · Memory care · Board and care

Does Medi-Cal pay for assisted living?

Generally not for room and board. California's Assisted Living Waiver can cover care services at participating communities, but it has a waiting list. We'll walk you through what's realistic for the person's situation, at no charge.

Do you need medical records?

No. We work from what help the person needs, a budget, an area and a timeline. Please don't send records or diagnoses.

How fast can this happen?

If there's a discharge date, tell us and we'll work to it. A first set of options in writing typically follows within a couple of days; tours can usually be arranged for the following day.

Will you come on tours?

If you'd like us to. We schedule the visits either way.

I'm a case manager. Do you pay for referrals, or expect anything back?

No, and we never will. Nothing changes hands between Waypost Care and a hospital, a case manager, or a provider who sends a family our way.

Will you pressure the family to decide?

No. The decision belongs to the person and their family, with their doctors. Our job ends when they have what they need to make it.

Are you a licensed care provider?

No. Waypost Care is a placement service. We don't provide care, and we don't give medical, nursing or legal advice. The communities we present are licensed, and we give you the license number for each one.
